Emily Donald is a British artist, living and working in Newquay, Cornwall. Her work is inspired by her surroundings, be that the street art of urban locales or the exotic landscapes that she has encountered on her many travels. Pop aesthetics, urban styles, and traditional Asian illustration coalesce in her work through the medium of textile design.
Using a mix of collage, pen and ink, and detailed painting, ‘Blue Tits in the Garden’ depicts the titular birds in flight against a blue and yellow backdrop of abstract light patterns. With a keen sensitivity to bright colour visual texture, Donald’s print is explosive, capturing the dynamic movement of the exotic birds with the intensity of a photographic snapshot, fused with traditional Chinese painting techniques and all the artistic prowess of modern abstraction.
